What To Expect
Many first time clients are unsure what to expect when booking a private massage session. My goal is to create an experience that feels professional, calming, respectful, and tailored to your comfort level from beginning to end. Whether you are dealing with stress, muscular tension, soreness, or simply need time to slow down, sessions are designed to help you feel comfortable, cared for, and at ease.

To schedule your appointment, you will first select your preferred date, time, and session length through the online booking system. After selecting your appointment, you will complete a brief intake form that helps me better understand your health history, areas of tension, injuries, stress levels, and what you hope to get out of your session. Once the intake form is completed, all clients are required to place a credit card on file and submit an 8% deposit that goes toward the session total. Your payment information is encrypted and securely processed, and your credit card information is never shared. Once your payment has been successfully processed, you will receive a confirmation email for your appointment. Before your session begins, we will briefly go over any concerns, areas of tension, injuries, pressure preferences, or questions you may have so your session can be customized to your comfort level and needs. Please arrive clean and hydrated if possible. A shower is also available if you would like to freshen up before your session. Sessions are available by appointment only in a quiet private home studio setting in N.E. Washington, DC near Gallaudet University and Union Market.

Many first time clients tell me they were nervous before arriving, especially if they have never experienced a private massage studio before. My goal is to make the environment feel relaxed, respectful, and judgment free from the moment you walk through the door. We will briefly discuss areas of focus, pressure preferences, injuries, stress levels, and how your body has been feeling recently. The studio is designed to feel warm, calming, and comfortable with soothing music, clean linens, heated table options, and a quiet atmosphere that allows your mind and body to settle. You will never be rushed during your session. Unlike some massage establishments that shorten your session time by taking away minutes for undressing and redressing, you will receive your full scheduled massage time at Squire Massage.

Every session is customized based on your needs and comfort level. Depending on the service selected, your massage may include Swedish massage, deep pressure techniques, trigger point release, stretching, reflexology, or slower focused bodywork designed to help deeply held tension release naturally. Pressure is always adjusted to your comfort level and communication is encouraged throughout the session. Proper draping is used at all times for professionalism, comfort, and privacy. Many clients describe the experience as therapeutic, calming, grounding, and deeply relaxing. Some men fall asleep, some quietly decompress, and others simply enjoy finally allowing their body to rest.

Because of this range of benefits, massages for men can be such a crucial part of an overall self-care practice.
If you’re actively involved in any sports or workout, a good massage soothes and relaxes tight muscles and will ease soreness from injury, and even helps in recovery. Old injuries, new injuries, or just having slept on that pillow wrong and now you can’t turn your neck for five business days – could all be worked out with a massage.
You could even need a massage after a long flight. Do you fly a lot for work, or are headed for a global vacation? On an airplane, you may have been sitting still and your body is atrophying. You’re immobilized, under pressure, and in a weird position, so your body is naturally stressed. A good massage helps relieve that stress, stretches you out, and sends you back into the world refreshed. It’s generally a great way to relieve stress, relax, and remove toxins from your body. You’ll sleep better and think more clearly.

Swedish Massage
The Swedish massage is probably the most familiar to you because it follows more Western traditions of anatomy and physiology. This therapist will use broad general strokes, known as effleurage, to start, and then will move on to target specific problem areas.
Deep Pressure Massage
The deep pressure massage builds on the Swedish tradition, utilizing pressure to release chronic muscle tension. It gets into deeper layers of muscle tissue and tendons. It’s said to reduce blood pressure and stress hormones and is specifically used to treat things like limited mobility, repetitive stress injuries like carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, or sciatica. The deep pressure breaks up knots of muscle and scar tissue to relieve pain and stiffness while increasing flexibility.
Sports Massage
A sports massage is based on any or all of these techniques and should be incorporated into your regimen if you are training for a specific event like a marathon, triathlon, Spartan Race, or a 5K. If you haven’t had a massage before (or haven’t had one in a while), don’t jump in too close to the event. Go every week or so early on in your training calendar, then around two days before the actual bout. Go again two or three days after you compete to work out the post-event soreness.
The practice helps prevent injuries due to overused and stressed muscles ahead of your competition, then reduces recovery time post-event. Be prepared with this one. Unlike a traditional massage, a sports massage therapist may give you homework and guidance on form correction like a coach. description

Let us know upfront about any medical issues you are experiencing. Do you have back pain or any injuries? Any skin conditions? In fact, if you have a rash of any sort, you should not get a message. Keep hydrated both before and after the session. This is all about your comfort, so, just like life, be clear and direct about what you expect.

Depending on your comfort level, you could be naked, wear underwear, have on boxers, or even wear a swimsuit. Any private bits will be covered with a sheet, or even a blanket to keep your body warm and blood circulating, so don’t be concerned with modesty. As an experienced massage therapist, I have seen it all and will not judge your appearance.
